Mactan Island Cebu
Mactan Island is a densely populated island located a few kilometres from Cebu Island in the Philippines. The island is part of Cebu Province and it is divided into Lapu-Lapu City and the municipality of Cordova. The island is separated from Cebu by the Mactan Channel which is crossed by two bridges: the Marcelo Fernan Bridge and the Mactan-Mandaue Bridge. The island covers some 65 km2 (25 sq mi) and is home to some 430,000 people, making it the nation’s most densely populated island. It is also the location of Mactan Cebu International Airport, the second-busiest airport in the country. Mactan Island pensione house and Apartments is located a few meters from the main road that serves the airport.
The west side of the island is known for its industrial factories while the east side is home to several beach resorts. The underwater life is one of the most diverse and stunning in the world.

History of Lapu-Lapu
Whenever we hear the name “Lapu-lapu” we always think of the man who killed Magellan, or the fish. We should look back at the history of Lapu-lapu rather than just see him as the man who killed a Spaniard who wanted to take over Cebu. Lapu-lapu, also known as “Kolipulako” was the chief and was described to be intelligent, proud, and unyielding. The history of Lapu-lapu doesn’t just involve rejecting to the brave navigator’s power. He rejected to give in to Spain’s sovereignty even though the others such as Raja Humabon who happens to be the leader of a neighboring island.
When Magellan was in Cebu, Mactan island was already a thriving community despite of its size. Magellan found out that some of the people who lived in the island refused to be ruled by the King of Spain he burned one of the villages. And Lapu-lapu was one of the chiefs who refused to bow down to Spain’s sovereignty.
On April 27, 1521 Magellan with three boats full of Spaniards and twenty boats full of Cebuanos arrived at Mactan and then Lapu-lapu and his armed men attacked them. The other Spaniards Cebuanos went back to their boats but Magellan died in the hands of Lapu-lapu City Cebu. Mactan Island offers some of the best diving, snorkeling, island hopping, jet ski, sailing and cultural activities of any island in the Philippines.

Muelle Osmeña (via ferry)
Being near the coast, you can also choose to travel to Lapu-lapu City from Cebu City and back by ferry. A boat trip across the Mactan Channel from the Muelle Osmena in Lapu-Lapu city to Pier 3, in Cebu city.
Punta Engaño Wharf (via boats/motor bangkas)
Punta Engaño is found at the southern edge of Lapu-Lapu City in Mactan Island. Small boats leave every hour to Barrio Santa Rosa, the port Olango Island. If one wants to reach the island faster or is simply in a rush, one can hire a private motor boat or Bangka to get to the island and back. But it will be quite expensive. The private motor bangka will take around 20 minutes to get to the island of Mactan.
